John O'Dwyer is raising money for Headway Cardiff & South East Wales

Walk to raise money for Headway · 9 August 2025

We provide information, support and services to people with acquired brain injury, their families and carers. We run an Independence and Wellbeing Centre, Community Social & Activity Groups, Welfare Benefits & Counselling Services, and monthly Family and Friends group.

Story

In 2023 John had a recurrence of the Hemangioblastoma that first occurred in 2008. This time it required two surgeries and involved going back into hospital for a number of reasons including aseptic meningitis. John's most recent MRI scan shows the tumour is growing back and he may face more operations in the future.

This was a very stressful time during which Headway Cardiff were very supportive and they continue to support us in a number of ways. Here is their mission statement - Headway's goal is to promote understanding of all aspects of acquired brain injury and to provide information, support and services to people with acquired brain injury, their families and carers.

John is slowly working to get back to full health and for his 50th birthday he would like to give back to Headway and help them continue all the fabulous work they do. We have arranged to do a 6.5 mile walk following the Iolo Morgannwg route around Cowbridge with close friends and family, which will be a good challenge at this time.
