Story
I'm not sure if Adam realised this (he probably would have scoffed at the thought!) but he was a hugely inspiring figure. One word kept coming to my mind whenever I was thinking about him over the last month, and that was 'energy.'
Adam had a boundless energy for 'doing things'. He would look at problem, or a challenge, or a thing that needed fixing, and think "f*ck it, how hard can it be?" ... and then throw his entire self at that thing. I saw that in his rowing; but it was also there in the way he helped run the club and its events, how he built a business form nothing, and in how he approached being a dad.
Adam's energy was also infectious: he had some kind of natural gift for bringing people along with him on these missions. He didn't seem to need to persuade, or to direct - he just did things and people went with him.
In memory of Adam I'm raising money for one of the charities that helped him and his family in those last months: the Ruth Strauss Foundation.
The Ruth Strauss Foundation supports families when a parent is living with an incurable cancer, helping them have the conversations that matter most and providing tailored emotional support.
We also raise awareness and fund research into non-smoking lung cancer – a growing but often overlooked illness.
Our mission is simple: to ensure no family faces these challenges alone.
