When living in Cliffe, John joined the fire service as a retained Firefighter, which entailed being on call when in the village. John completed 20 years service, achieving the role of Sub-Officer before moving to Strood. John continued this interest by visiting local fire stations and enquiring about the wellbeing of colleagues.

John has always been passionate about the Fire Service and donating to this charity would reflect his pride for this service.
