Story
We met in 1987 and were married in 1990 and had an amazing life together. We were however missing one element and fate seemed to be against us. Then finally this was completed by the birth of our son James in 2006, who was so very much wanted.
Nikki loved holidays, skiing, and flydrives to California were her favorites. She had a zest for life, and was always active She loved, walking, the gym, trips to London, weekends away, and entertaining friends and family.
Nikki was born in Tiverton Devon and went to school locally.
She started work at Whitbreads and then after redundancy moved to SWEB which became EDF. She worked there for 27 years and was a highly valued and well liked employee.
In 2021 Nikki decided to take redundancy once again and then took a part-time supermarket job. Everything was going to plan and then in January 2022 right out of the blue we got her shocking cancer diagnosis
Initially chemotherapy seemed to be working and outwardly you really would'nt have known she had cancer. Dog walks the gym and work etc continued as normal. Then she was scheduled for a minor operation to remove a small tumour from her lung and it was then it became apparent that the cancer had spread considerably. Nikki decided to take a conservative approach to treatment so as to perserve as much quality of life as possible. This gave us a few months of what appeared to be normal life. Then the cancer started to impact on her health and she was soon obviously very ill.
She had a couple of stays in Hospiscare to try and manage the symptons and pain but after each period of respite it became clear that her health was rapidly deteriorating. We tried to manage this at home as she so desperately wanted to be at home when the time came. Unfortunately she became so ill that Hospiscare Exeter was the best place for her.
On March 14th, 2023, whilst under the amazing care of staff at the Exeter hospice my darling wife and mother lost her horrific battle with cancer.
Nikki has left behind her beloved son James, her sister, many neices and nephews and her mother. She adored her dog Jack, and had many dear friends.
Nikki was always full of praise for the care she received at Hospiscare Exeter and as a family we fully appreciated the brilliant care and support they offered to Nikki and the both of us.
It is now our turn to give back!
James is doing some amazing stuff. Ultra Marathons etc. I am going to do some events as well - TBA
Please support us in rasing the money for Hospiscare Exeter.
