Story

You may have seen our daughter Lyla’s story featured nationally on BBC News on Wednesday, 17th September. I write today with a heavy heart and a growing sense of urgency.

We are calling for meaningful change in how Type 1 Diabetes is identified and managed in children across the UK. Our campaign, Lyla’s Law is driven by the belief that no child should be missed, and no family should endure the grief we now carry. We need your help to raise awareness, advocate for policy reform, and protect other children from the same fate.

Together, we can make a difference. Together, we can ensure that Lyla’s story leads to lasting change.

On Saturday, 1st November 2025 at 7:30pm, I’ll be hosting a charity race night at The Inglemire Club, Inglemire Lane, Hull. It’s an evening that means the world to us—held in loving memory of our daughter, Lyla Story.

Every pound raised will go to Breakthrough T1D UK (Charity No. 295716), supporting their vital work in research, education, and early detection of Type 1 Diabetes.

This event is part of our ongoing campaign for Lyla’s Law (#LylasLaw), which calls for routine testing in babies, toddlers, children, and adolescents who show any symptoms of the 4 T’s: Toileting, Thirsty, Tiredness, and Thinning.

As you may already know, Lyla’s life was heartbreakingly cut short due to undiagnosed Type 1 Diabetes. We walk, we speak, and we fundraise so that no other family has to endure what we have. We’re determined to turn our grief into action, and we’d be honoured if you could be part of that.

There will be 8 races on the night, plus an auction race. If you cannot attend the event, please consider donating to the cause.

Here’s what your generosity could achieve:

• 💻 £20 could help 20 parents return to work, knowing their child’s diabetes is safely managed at school

• 🔬 £65 could fund an hour of life-saving research

• 🧪 £115 could screen one person for Type 1 Diabetes—potentially preventing a crisis before it begins.

You can also support us by signing and sharing our petition far and wide, for the love of our beautiful girl, and for the protection of children moving forward:👉 Sign the Petition https://petition.parliament.uk/petitions/728677

Thank you for taking the time to read this, any support means more than words can say. Together, we can help Breakthrough T1D cure Type 1 Diabetes, and ensure no child is missed ever again.
