Team Tett: Outwalking Amyloidosis

John Tett is raising money for Amyloidosis UK

Walking 400 kilometres in 3 months · 2 May 2026

We are a patient led charity dedicated to providing information and support for anyone affected by amyloidosis in the UK. We aim to bring the amyloidosis community together and advocate for improved care for amyloidosis patients in the UK.

Story

Our Dad, John, has always been the pillar of our family. Recently, at 76 years old, he was diagnosed with Amyloidosis.

Many people have never heard of this condition, and that is exactly why we are here. Amyloidosis occurs when abnormal proteins build up in the body’s organs, affecting their ability to function. It is a "hidden" illness—often misdiagnosed or caught too late because its symptoms, like extreme fatigue and sleeplessness, can be mistaken for other things.

Dad isn't just walking for himself; he’s walking so that others might get a diagnosis sooner.

The Challenge: 400k in 90 Days.

The Kickoff: John’s First-Ever Parkrun

To launch this mission with the energy it deserves, John is doing something he has never done before. On 2nd May at the age of 76, he will be completing his first-ever 5k Parkrun at West Park, Wolverhampton.

This isn't just a walk in the park; it’s the official start of a gruelling three-month journey. We’ll be there as a family to cheer him across his first finish line.

The Parkrun is just the beginning. Over the next 3 months, Dad has committed to walking a total of 400 kilometers (approx. 250 miles).

He needs to average 31km every single week. For a man of 76 managing the daily toll and sleepless nights of Amyloidosis, this is a monumental task. Every kilometer he logs is a conversation started about this rare disease.

Our Goal: Awareness First

While we are raising funds for research and support, our primary mission is visibility.

• We want people to recognize the name Amyloidosis.

• We want to support the research that leads to earlier detection.

• We want to prove that a diagnosis doesn't mean standing still.

How You Can Help

You don't just have to donate to make a difference. You can help us raise awareness by:

1. Sharing this page: Help us reach people who may never have heard of Amyloidosis.

2. Following the journey: We will be posting regular updates and photos as Dad hits his milestones.

3. Donating: If you can, every penny goes toward vital research and patient support.

Every step John takes is a step toward bringing Amyloidosis out of the shadows. Thank you for standing—and walking—with him.

With love and determination,

Pam, his children, their partners, and all of his grandchildren.
