Story

Please join me in supporting Gerddi Bro Ddyfi Gardens in memory of my beloved brother, John the Rock, who died suddenly aged just 61 on 20th September, 2024.

Gerddi Bro Ddyfi Gardens provides a therapeutic community wildlife garden for everyone in the Machynlleth area. The garden is permanently open to the community and is nestled in the public Plas park grounds.

Amongst his many interests, John was passionate about wildlife and growing his own food, and about encouraging everyone to take good care of planet earth, our only home.

He was a much loved and valued member of his Dyfi Valley community and was eager to get involved with Gerddi Bro Ddyfi Gardens, sharing his extensive knowledge of flora, fauna, ecology and gardening.

I hope that you will join me in supporting this grass-roots community initiative in John's memory. The family will match any donations made. Thank you.

The photo I've chosen is John in the garden he created on the banks of the Dyfi on a borrowed plot. It was an immense project, clearing overgrown brambles, terracing and planting. He applied brains and brawn and created an edible oasis. Sadly the garden is no more, but for the few years it was in John's care, it provided him with a much needed haven of tranquility and peace and many wonderful dinners.
