Story
Thanks for taking the time to visit my JustGiving page.
Having suffered from the progressive "syndrome", restless legs (Willis-Ekbom syndrome) a neurological disorder which causes a irresistible urge to move your legs, for nearly 30 years I thought it was about time I tried to raise money for this little known charity (RLS-UK).
The challenge to which I have committed to do is a cycle from Dover to Durness in 13 consecutive days (19th to 31st July 2025). South east of England to north west of Scotland. It will be circa 950 miles (1,520 Km), cycling an average of just over 73 miles (117 Km) per day and climbing on average of 4,400 feet (1,350 meters) per day. It is an organised tour with 24 other cyclists from various countries in the world.
RLS as it is best known is a series of sensations which can feel like crawling, creeping, itching or when severe (as in my case) painful jerks and spasms. It only affects you when you rest/relax and is a remarkable form of night time torture. Making sleep very, very difficult and having a resultant impact on your life.
There is no recognised RLS diagnosis tool, no known cure and no specific RLS medications. It is usually for life and gets worse every year.
RLS attracts no serious fund raising events and has no money for proper research into this syndrome (no idea why it is not recognised as a illness/disease!) and how to help people who suffer from it. Especially those whose who lifestyle is affected by it.
This is my small contribution to assisting the charity with its work.
