John Gomer Morris, 103 Year Old Veteran and Chelsea Pensioner, Goes Walkabout For The Pilgrim Bandits

Sarah Adams is raising money for Pilgrim Bandits

fundraising walk · 16 August 2025

Pilgrim Bandits know that adversity, challenges and obstacles serve to strengthen the human spirit. But for some of those we support, just to smile or enjoy the company of others, is an almost insurmountable task. We endeavour to get them to believe in a life worth living again. Through Pilgrim Bandits they push to new limits. They help others. They inspire children and young people by working with schools and care centers. Some say that we are a charity, we say were a charitable force.

Story

Help a 103-Year-Old War Hero Give Back to the Charity That Brought Him Home

John Gomer Morris is no ordinary man. He is the last surviving member of the Raiding Support Regiment, a WWII unit that supported British Special Forces on some of the most dangerous missions of the war. Now, at 103 years old, John is the oldest Pensioner living at The Royal Hospital Chelsea, home of the legendary Chelsea Pensioners.

After a lifetime of global adventures and service, John fell on hard times during the COVID-19 pandemic while living in Australia. At 98, he made the extraordinary move back to the UK — a journey made possible by Pilgrim Bandits, a charity founded by former Special Forces members that continues to support veterans facing adversity.

To say thank you, John is going walkabout one more time — this time to raise funds for the very charity that helped him when he needed it most and which continues to support him through companionship, activities and ensuring he continues to live life to the full.

Let's walk with John - in person, in spirit or with a donation to the Pilgrim Bandits Charity.
