Montane Winter Spine MRT Challenge North 2025 (160 miles) · 13 January 2025

Killin Mountain Rescue Team is a voluntary unpaid charity providing search and rescue assistance to people in difficulty on the hills and other remote locations from Callander to Tyndrum. We cover the northern area of Trossachs and Loch Lomond National Park. Ben Lui, Ben More, Ben Ledi are some of the most popular hills in our area. Affiliated to Scottish Mountain Rescue our members reside locally, have local hill knowledge and provide a quick response to calls for assistance when someone finds themselves in difficulty requiring mountain rescue support.

UPDATE: I did it! And now I’m doing it again...

Having joined Killin Mountain Rescue Team as a probationary member last August, I’ve been constantly inspired by the dedication, professionalism, and kindness of this incredible group of volunteers.

In January, I ran the Montane Winter Spine Challenger North to raise funds for the team — a brutal, 160-mile non-stop race through snow, ice, and sub-zero temperatures. It was one of the hardest things I’ve ever done, but I was proud to finish 4th overall and as the first Mountain Rescue Team runner. Thanks to your incredible generosity, we raised £2,376, and I was genuinely overwhelmed by the support and encouragement I received.

Now, just a few days after deciding to take it on again, I’m heading back to run the Summer Spine Challenger North. I’ve had to ease off training recently due to injury, but I couldn’t resist the chance to see the same stunning route — this time in daylight rather than headtorch beams! It’ll still be a huge challenge, but I’m excited to be back.

Killin MRT is a vital volunteer service, on call 24/7, 365 days a year, ready to help anyone in trouble across Scotland’s rugged landscapes. Every donation helps fund essential kit, training, and resources that allow the team to respond swiftly and safely when it matters most.

While I’m not expecting to raise as much as last time, I’d love to raise a bit more to support the team. If you’re able to donate or share the page, it would mean a great deal.

Thank you so much for your continued kindness and support.
