Story
Can you imagine losing a family member to disease because you lacked $5 for medicine? I’m raising funds to support people in the poorest country on earth, Burundi.
Many of you will know that I lived and worked in the DRC. Having seen first hand some of the lasting effect of years of conflict, I’m passionate about the whole Great Lakes region (DRC, Rwanda, Burundi, Uganda). People have suffered from the impact of historic and ongoing conflict in a way that most of us can’t begin to imagine. Burundi is the poorest of all the Great Lakes nations and is, by most measures, the very poorest country in the world.
I’m therefore really excited to be raising funds for my friends at Great Lakes Outreach (GLO). GLO works with visionary local leaders to transform Burundi through education, healthcare, training and more, bringing hope to thousands of the most vulnerable. You can find out more about GLO at their website: https://www.greatlakesoutreach.org/about-glo/
I’ll be raising funds by running my first ever marathon (!) on 13 April with one son (Raffy) and then going with another (Theo) to join a small group that will cycle around Burundi in June: 777km in 7 days climbing 38,000 feet. https://www.greatlakesoutreach.org/get-involved/bike-for-burundi-25/
I’d be so grateful if you could sponsor me. I will match - from my Charities’ Trust account - any funds I raise here up to the first £10,000.
