65 epic miles in the Yorkshire Dales · 29 June 2025

The RBL are the UK's leading charity providing financial, social and emotional support to millions who have served and are currently serving in the British Armed Forces and their dependents.

Story

65 tough miles including the iconic Trapping Hill/Cote Du Lofthouse Climb!

As you know I was planning on doing a 200 mile ride spread over 3 days, as a pseudo Coast to Coast ride. As my training has progressed I’ve realised that my knackered old back and wonky right leg just can’t stand up to consecutive long days in the saddle. So….. I’m got in to do the 65 mile route of the Yorkshire Dales Sportive on the 29 June (gulp). This includes the Trapping Hill climb (used in the Tour De Yorkshire) a climb of 3.2 km, with an average gradient of 8.4% and a maximum of 16.5%. As it comes at about the 40 mile mark, this is going to be quite a challenge!

For those that have already donated, I hope you’re OK with this change of plan. If you haven’t donated and would like to, that would be grand too.

Having served for 20 years in the Royal Navy the RBL is a charity close to my heart. Any support you can give me to reach my target would be great.
