Story
Thanks for taking the time to visit our JustGiving page.
At the beginning of 2025, our little girl woke up one morning unable to walk on her leg. For anyone who knows Eleanor you’ll know how much energy she has and to see her suddenly in pain for no known reason just trying to get out of bed in the mornings was so difficult.
After a trip to A&E and multiple hospital appointments across the first half of the year, Eleanor was referred to Alder Hey Children’s Hospital whose amazing Rheumatology team diagnosed her with Juvenile Idiopathic Arthritis (JIA), a condition that affects around 1 in 1600 children under 16 in the UK. This is equal to around 8000 children in the UK alone being diagnosed with the condition. JIA is an autoimmune condition where the body attacks the joints causing inflammation, pain and reduced mobility. Now with weekly injections and physiotherapy for the joints affected in her knee and elbow, Eleanor is finally becoming more mobile again though there are still days where she struggles.
March is ‘Juvenille Arthritis Month’ and as a family, we want to raise money to support the amazing work and research done by Juvenile Arthritis Research (JAR) to help raise awareness of this autoimmune condition and the impact it has on children and their families across the UK. We will both be completing our own ‘Fifty in March’ challenges where we will be walking (Hayley) or running (Luke) 50km across the month. Eleanor will be joining us where she can also.
