We have decided to take on the challenge of the London Marathon in 2024 for St Helena Hospice in memory of not only Penny (Jon and Ali’s mum & Kate’s mother-in-law), Brian (Kate’s dad) but also Toni (Jon’s best friend’s wife) all of whom we have sadly lost in the last 2 and a half years and at some time were looked after by St Helena’s

St Helena Hospice provides specialist palliative and end of life care to local people facing incurable illness in North East Essex, supporting them, their families, friends and carers. They have a special gift for doing this with comfort and dignity.

It is hard to communicate the importance and extent of the care and support that was given in the last weeks of their lives by the very special people at St Helena’s. We will be forever grateful for this and the support we were given as family and friends.

We didn’t expect nor plan for this sad situation and St Helena’s was a real blessing to us all in our time of need and heartbreak. Our journey with grief has felt a bit like a marathon at times. A test of endurance both physically and mentally. As a family we feel like we would like to give something back to St Helena’s Hospice to help them to continue this amazing and critical work.

All three of us have always wanted to run the London Marathon, and since Mum’s passing last year, we couldn’t think of a better charity we would like to run it for. We are doing this in memory of Penny, Brian and Toni and to help St Helena’s continue provide the level of care they, and us as relatives, received.

We are so grateful for any donation that helps St Helenas continue this amazing and critical work.
