Walking the Pennine Way · 12 July 2024

People affected by prostate cancer need breakthrough treatments. Research is the only way to turn this hope into reality. Combining patient stories and scientific expertise, we fund projects that have a real impact, reducing side-effects, cutting treatment costs and ultimately improving outcomes.

Story

Thank you for visiting my JustGiving page!

In July, starting from Hawes on the 12th, Jon and Gordon are going to walk 160 miles of the Pennine Way, Britain’s oldest long distance trail, to finish 10 days later in Kirk Yetholme in Scotland. This part of the Pennine Way is the most rugged part of this 268 mile trail, crossing as it does the highest point of the Pennine Way, Cross Fell at 893 metres, and the magnificent Cheviot range as we enter Scotland.

In doing so we hope to raise funds for charities close to our hearts, Breast Cancer UK and Prostate Cancer Research. Having been diagnosed with prostate cancer in late 2020 Jon is now cancer free, and has already completed a Pennine Way walk since then. Jon’s daughter-in-law is also now cancer free, having been diagnosed with breast cancer while Gordon’s cousin unfortunately died of breast cancer in her early 30s. The charities we aim to raise money for are at the forefront of cancer research and we hope that the money we raise will help the ongoing research into eliminating cancer that can be life threatening for so many.

Please donate what you can so we can help them to help others.
