Story
This year I'm taking on the biggest challenge of my life: running 24 hours through an obstacle course aiming to complete 100 miles. I'm doing this to raise money for CALM - the Campaign Against Living Miserably, a charity dedicated to suicide prevention.
In 2024, the UK lost 6,069 people to suicide. That's roughly 116 every week. CALM is working tirelessly to change that. They provide a helpline, webchat, and vital support for those struggling, while also challenging stigma and opening up conversations about mental health.
This cause is incredibly close to my heart as I lost my dad to suicide whilst I was studying at uni. Losing him was a complete shock and the moment I got the news will undoubtedly stay with me forever. This moment showed me how people going through those kind of feelings can keep them totally hidden from their family and friends and can make themselves feel isolated. From seeing the stories of others, he wasn't unique in that respect. By supporting CALM, I want to ensure others get the opportunity for the help they need before it's too late and that those left behind get the support they need to continue onwards.
Running 100 miles in 24 hours will be a huge physical and mental test. I have attempted it once before in Alabama in 2022 where I achieved 75 miles. From this I know what to expect and I know there will be moments which feel great and there will be many where I wonder why I chose to do it. Every struggle will be worth it if it helps save lives.
I need your help to make this challenge count. Any donation, big or small, will go directly to CALM and their life-saving work.
