Story

If you know me, you’ll know running is not my natural habitat. Which makes doing the London Marathon for Growing Hope a bit of a surprise to everyone, especially me.

But this charity matters deeply to me. Back in 2017, I played a part in setting up Growing Hope’s very first clinic in King’s Cross. I’ve seen first-hand the difference their work makes, not in theory, but in real families’ lives. I’ve watched children find support they were struggling to access elsewhere, and parents feel less alone in seasons that can be exhausting, isolating, and overwhelming.

Growing Hope offers free therapy for children and young people with additional needs, working in partnership with local churches across the UK. They exist to grow hope for families where hope has been worn thin by isolation or rejection, and they share hope in Jesus, trusting that he brings light even in the most difficult situations.

They provide a range of therapies, including occupational therapy, speech and language therapy, and music therapy, helping children and young people reach their potential. They also support parents, carers, and siblings through groups and courses, recognising that the whole family needs care.

Research shows that many families simply aren’t getting the support they need through the NHS, as services are stretched beyond capacity. Growing Hope exists to help bridge that gap, walking alongside families who are often desperate for help and running out of options.

The marathon itself is a personal challenge too. A year ago, I couldn’t run for two minutes without stopping. I’m not fast, I'm big, I’m not a natural runner, and this hasn’t come easily. But step by step, from Couch to 5k, to 10k, to a half marathon, I’ve kept going. Part of that is about needing a goal. Part of it is about wanting my daughters to see what perseverance looks like when something is hard. And part of it is about making the effort count for something beyond me.

If you’re able to give, you’ll be helping Growing Hope continue to offer vital care and support to children and families who need it most. Every donation genuinely makes a difference.

Thank you so much for your support 🏃🏻🌱
