Story
I am running Leamington Spa half marathon on the 25th June 2023 and raising money to support this charity which is very close to my heart. My lovely Mum sadly passed away 3 years ago at the age of 49. She had only been diagnosed with Stage 4 Bowel Cancer some 11 weeks prior to her passing away. Mum was very fit, healthy, and active. She was not overweight, hardly ever drank alcohol etc, & did not present any symptoms whatsoever, until a tummy ache led Mum to hospital & the medics initially thought as part of their triage that she could have appendicitis or kidney stones.
Never ever was she, nor were we prepared for the scan results & the weeks that then followed.
By raising funds & awareness of this fabulous charity, I hope with all my heart, that over time, we are able to significantly improve screening, reducing the age when bowel cancer screening can commence & therefore diagnose many more people at an earlier stage as it can be treatable & curable when discovered early, in addition to research & improved gold standard treatments for patients.
45+ people die every day in the UK from Bowel Cancer. Let’s make a change, together.
