Story
Hi, I’m Jon and on Sunday 5th October 2025, I’ll be running my 6th half marathon in Cardiff. Over the past 12/13 years, I have been in constant battle with my weight dropping from 27+ stone to around 16 and a half stone as of today (and slowly dropping). The past 5 half marathons I have completed just for my own personal achievement. This year, however, I have decided to dedicate my run to a charity very close to my heart.
For around the last 5 or so years, my wife Lindsay has been under several consultants for symptoms they couldn’t diagnose. Unsteady balance, slowing speech, slower mobility just to name a few. That was until last September when we were finally able to receive a diagnosis from a specialist in Oxford. That consultant confirmed to us that Lindsay has a very rare form of Motor Neurones Disease (MND) known as Primary Lateral Sclerosis (PLS). Like the more common form of MND, there is no cure and her condition will continue to deteriorate however the difference with PLS is that the deterioration occurs at a much slower rate and is not considered life-limiting - which, in a way, is a blessing for us.
The MND Association is an incredible charity that we have worked with since diagnosis who are able to provide support in so many ways to those with the condition as well as their families - whether that’s moral or financial. They’re able to reach out and work with other charities such as Bernardo’s for child counselling. They have been absolutely incredible with us so I would love to be able to give back to such a worthy charity who can help many others with this terrible condition.
