Story
Earlier this year, we lost Dave, a great friend who fought a brave and gallant battle against bladder cancer. Dave left a wife Elena and two teenage children for whom he was a devoted Dad. I was lucky to share some wonderful times with Dave in Suffolk, in our shared house whilst at University in Leeds and on the terraces at Portman Road both during the dark years under Mick McCarthy and more recently under better times with super Kieran McKenna!
In his memory, a group made up of Elena, Dave’s wife and good friends from University will be taking on a tough challenge: walking a section of the Pennine Way (England's toughest long distance trail) , from Edale in Derbyshire to Ickornshaw in Lancashire. This route covers around 100km and the equivalent height of the Three Peaks.
As well as being a chance to reminisce about wonderful times with and memories of Dave, most importantly we’re doing this to raise money for Action Bladder Cancer UK, a charity dedicated to improving outcomes and support for those affected by this under-recognised disease. Bladder cancer is one of the most common cancers, yet it receives far less attention and funding than many others. Every donation, no matter the size, will help to fund research, provide patient support, and raise awareness.
This walk is our way of honouring Dave’s memory – whilst making a difference for others facing the same illness.
We would be so grateful if you could support us by donating. Together, we can celebrate Dave’s life and help fight bladder cancer.
Thank you.
