Jonathan and Helen's fundraiser for Alzheimer's Research UK

Hike For A Cure - Peak District 13 miles · 14 September 2024 ·
At the very young age of just 60, our beloved Juliana (Granny Jules) was diagnosed with vascular dementia, such a painfully upsetting and incredibly cruel disease, both for her and the whole of the family. We have watched the most intelligent, beautiful and caring lady turn into a mere shell of herself. She is now at the heartbreaking stage where she has no recognition to any of her close family or friends and simply no consciousness of her own life or physical surroundings.
Right now, Jules is in permanent care as she lives out the final stages of this chapter of her life. We are doing this walk in her honour and raising money for the research to continue to find a cure so that in the future individuals and families will not have to suffer this truly torturous disease.
So, a mere 13 miles walk, that easy I hear you say…. Well, anyone that knows me (Helen) will know how much I dislike walking, I just don't have the feet for it, so for me this is going to be a real test of character and mental strength. Jonathan on the other hand skips around Draycote water with ease, so I fully expect him to be carrying me the last few miles (much like when we first met doing the Yorkshire 3 peaks in 2014, a story I am sure many of you have heard from him before).
Please if you can, help us raise our target of £1000.00 for this charity that needs all our support to continue the incredible work it is doing.
Every 3 minutes dementia steals a happily ever after. Research is our only chance of changing the ending for people affected by dementia.
We are the UK's leading dementia research charity. We exist for a cure.
Your donation helps our scientists and researchers find new ways to diagnose dementia, develop new treatments and find a cure for dementia.
