Story
Every day, 32 men in the UK die from prostate cancer. This Prostate Cancer Awareness Month, I am turning that number into action.
In February 2024 I went for my annual check up and had a PSA blood test. It came back just around acceptable for my age but given family history (my dad sadly passed away in 2007 from prostate cancer) they suggested having it checked out. I thought all would most likely be okay.
I went for an examination that took a few minutes and something seemed to be not quite right so an MRI scan followed. 2 weeks later I had a biopsy and again wasn't unduly worried as I had not experienced any symptoms.
The results came in and after a short meeting I found out i had stage 2 prostate cancer.
In November I underwent 20 days of Radiotherapy and received hormone injections from August 2024 until January 2025. I'm happy to say my last PSA test was a value of 0.06
I believe that I am now in recovery. However, I will need blood tests ever 3 months to monitor blood PSA levels.
Please get checked chaps. It is a simple blood test and could save your life!
Join me on Mission 32 and run, walk, or cycle 32 miles in March— or fundraise your own way.
Every pound I raise will help us demand change this Prostate Cancer Awareness Month.
No national screening exists for prostate cancer—but that can change. The government is reviewing it now, and we must demand action.
Breast cancer screening happened because people spoke up. Now it’s our turn.
This Prostate Cancer Awareness Month, I'm raising funds to raise awareness, get men checked, and push for screening.
