Story

Marianna Julia Prospere “Auntie” was a classy lady, remembered for her poise, presence, and gentle spirit❤️ and she was always on time, when it came to making and decorating birthday cakes for family and friends.

Sadly, when she developed Alzheimer’s, it quickly took these sensibilities from her, and eventually, she passed away. Auntie will always be remembered for her class; I just hope that this tribute honours the grace and elegance she embodied throughout her life.

Alzheimer’s is a story that none of us want to be a part of, yet it’s one that could touch any of us, at any time. It’s a story where memories fade, where the chapters of a life well-lived are slowly erased, leaving only fragments of what once was. This is not just the story of those diagnosed; it’s the story of their families, friends, and loved ones who watch as the person they know and love gradually slips away. It’s a story that could affect you, me, or someone close to us.

But there’s another story being written—a story of hope and determination. With every step I take, I’m striving to get one step closer to ending this disease. Between now and the London Marathon, there will be millions of steps taken across the country as runners prepare for this event. Each step represents not just miles on the road, but progress in the fight against Alzheimer’s. Every stride is an act of defiance against the narrative that Alzheimer’s tries to write.

I’m just one runner, but I’ll be joining thousands of others who are running for something greater than themselves. We’re running to raise money for life-changing research, for those who can no longer run, for those whose stories have been interrupted. I’ll be giving it my all, but I need your help to make a difference. Your support could help change the ending for countless people affected by Alzheimer’s.

Together, let’s take those steps, let’s rewrite the story, and let’s move closer to a future where Alzheimer’s is a thing of the past. I’ll do my best—step by step—until we reach the finish line.
