Story
In April, I'll be running the London Marathon for Lymphoma Action, the UK's leading charity dedicated to supporting people affected by lymphoma.
Earlier this year my best friend and brother James was diagnosed with lymphoma. He and I have spent the last 28 years competing over everything from football and tennis, to dinner (who can eat faster) and hotel room sock golf (it's complicated, ask me for details). Running the London Marathon to fundraise for a charity that's close to our hearts feels like a fitting continuation of that legacy. It would be churlish of me to point out that I've always been a much better runner than James.
James has taken his diagnosis like a champion, with typical good humour and grace. I've personally struggled to come to terms with the fact that my little brother is battling cancer at the age of 28 and have been more appreciative than ever to have a fantastic network of family and friends. I've also been so grateful to the team at Lymphoma Action, who've been brilliant from the moment we first spoke.
Lymphoma Action's mission is to make sure that no-one has to face lymphoma alone. They are here for everyone affected by lymphoma and provide expert information, dedicated support and a community that understands – right from day one. They also support healthcare professionals and advocate for better treatment and care. As well as managing to squeeze me onto their running team at short notice, they've provided us with a wealth of resources to help make the unimaginable feel a little more manageable.
We would be grateful for donations of all sizes. Thank you in advance for your support.
