I’m Running the London Marathon – Supporting a Cause Close to My Heart

This year, I’m taking on the incredible challenge of running the London Marathon. I was lucky enough to secure a ballot place, so now I’m raising support for a cause that means a lot to me.

My love for running is a relatively new journey, but my motivation runs deep. In my high school years, I worked in my grandparents’ fish shop and later lived with them when my parents separated. I was incredibly close to them—spoiled, really! We had some amazing times. Losing my grandmother to cancer in November 2012 was devastating. It all happened so fast. One moment we were told, and the next, she was gone. I didn’t fully grasp what was important until it was too late. But I know she would be so proud of my little family and everything I’ve achieved today.

As for my running journey—well, that’s a story! Apart from a single Abbey Dash back in 2012, I hadn’t run properly until my workplace started a Couch to 5K group in summer 2022. That small lunchtime run turned into a passion. Since then, I’ve completed my first 10K in May 2024, a 10-mile race in June, and a half marathon in September. Then one day, our little running group had a wild idea—let’s enter the London Marathon! And here we are—just nine weeks to go!

The kennels are booked for the dogs, trains and hotels are sorted, kit is nearly finalised, and I’ve got my pacing locked in—completion over speed! I’m both excited and nervous, but it’s going to be an unforgettable experience.
