Story

Well it's good news - I have completed the Cambridge Half Marathon!

And thanks to my supporters we have raised £2154, plus gift aid, for Cardiac Risk in the Young. This is brilliant and thanks to everyone who has donated.

I'm sure there will be some who would still like give to this great cause, so please do. Any amount would go towards the work that CRY do to screen young people for cardiac abnormalities and research to gain a better understanding of sudden cardiac arrest.

18th January, 2023, Elle and I were faced with the unimaginable task of resuscitating a child, on the playground of our school. Fortunately the child survived. An underlying condition caused the cardiac arrest and I am raising money to reduce the frequency of young sudden cardiac death.

The events on that day demonstrated to us both, and to the whole community how precious life is and how more can be done to protect it.

The panic, fear and sheer devastation is something that neither of us wish to revisit and 9 minutes felt like a lifetime but hearing the words ‘there is a pulse, they’re back’ is a statement that will never be forgotten.

I will be undertaking the Cambridge Half Marathon to raise money for CRY, ‘Cardiac Risk in the young.’ with hopes that as research progresses, more and more children can be saved and can be given a chance at living a full and joyous life.

Any donation, no matter the amount will be so deeply appreciated and we have no doubt will make the most enormous difference to those children and young people who live quite literally in fear.

Every week in the UK at least 12 apparently fit and healthy young people die of undiagnosed cardiac conditions.

With your donation, CRY can reduce the frequency of young sudden cardiac death (YSCD) by working with cardiologists and family doctors to establish good practice and appropriate screening facilities to promote and protect the cardiac health of our young.

By supporting CRY you will help save young lives from these potentially fatal cardiac conditions.
