Story

This September, I’m taking on the Great North Run to raise money for the Seashell Trust, a national charity transforming the lives of disabled children and young adults with the most complex needs.

I’ve taken on challenges like this before, but this time, the motivation behind the miles is particularly personal.

Jen and I feel incredibly fortunate to have two wonderful children, including our youngest son, who has additional needs. While his challenges are less complex than those faced by many of the young people supported by the Seashell Trust, our experiences as parents have given us a much greater appreciation of the difference that specialist charities like Seashell can make to young people and their families.

Last summer, Jen volunteered at Seashell’s CADS school holiday programme and saw first-hand the incredible work that takes place there every day. She saw the difference that the programme makes to children and young people, as well as the fantastic range of inclusive activities, specialist equipment and additional enrichment activities on offer. From swimming and cycling to sport, fitness and other activities, Seashell creates opportunities for young people of all abilities to be active, have fun, build confidence and develop greater independence. That really resonated with me. Sport has always been a huge part of my life, and I strongly believe that everyone should have the opportunity to experience the enjoyment, benefits and sense of belonging that being active can bring. Seashell’s commitment to making sport and physical activity genuinely inclusive is something I’m particularly proud to support.

Running the Great North Run for Seashell therefore feels like the perfect opportunity to bring together my passion for running with my commitment to creating more inclusive opportunities for young people.

I’d be incredibly grateful for any support you can give. Every donation will help Seashell continue providing the exceptional support, opportunities and experiences that make such a difference to young people and their families.

Thank you for helping me raise money for Seashell and support the incredible work they do.
