Whizz Kidz Manchester & London Marathon Challenge

Jonathan Mercer is raising money for Whizz Kidz

London Marathon 2026 · 26 April 2026 ·

Support Team Whizz Kidz and help transform the lives of young wheelchair users.

Story

After two years off, heading into my 40s, and with my knees finally recovered (or at least working), I thought I’d ease myself back in. Manchester 2026, a race I've never done in a City I adore.

Instead, after a late drop-out from someone due to run the London Marathon, I got asked if I could step in… with a month’s notice, all in aid of Whizz Kidz.

Stupidly, I said yes.

Which now means I’m running TWO MARATHONS IN SEVEN DAYS, in what feels like the biggest Manchester vs London showdown since Oasis and Blur went at it in 1995.

I’ll be aiming to raise £2,000, including £750 carried over from my Around the World Challenge, which I had to cut short due to injury. Rather than let that support go to waste, I’m putting it to proper use here.

Whizz Kidz is the UK’s leading charity supporting young wheelchair users up to the age of 25. There are over 75,000 young people in the UK who need a wheelchair to be mobile, and many don’t have access to one that properly meets their needs. That leaves them at risk of social isolation, poor mental health, and physical injury.

Whizz Kidz changes that.

They provide the right equipment, the skills, and the confidence young people need to move freely and live fully, while also campaigning for a more accessible and inclusive society.

Every donation helps get closer to a world where every young wheelchair user is mobile, enabled, and included.

So if you can support, donate, or even just share, it genuinely makes a difference.

And if nothing else, you’re backing someone attempting two marathons in a week, who's tunring 40… which feels questionable at best.
