Story
Many of you will be aware that Morwenna has been under the care of the Evelina London Children’s Hospital for the past 6 years. One consequence of Morwenna’s condition was that she needed a kidney transplant in May last year. Fortunately, Morwenna’s Dad, Jon, was able to act as the donor for the transplant.
Morwenna and Jon are both trying to help one of the Evelina London charities raise funds for the upcoming British Transplant Games to be held this summer. The Games are a highlight for all children with transplants and their families. The incredible event marks a return to fitness for so many children and provides important peer and family support, whilst highlighting the importance of organ donation. The charity’s aim is to help ensure that all Evelina children and their families are able to participate in the Games.
Morwenna has received incredible support from the Evelina over the years, and we are very keen now to give something back. It is important to stress that a transplant is not a cure – all recipients face a lifetime of medical care, medication and potentially further transplants in the future.
Along with nearly 50 other parents and medics from the Evelina and Southampton General Hospital, Jon is participating in a 106 mile / 171 km cycle ride from the Evelina to Southampton on 28th June. Not being a regular cyclist, it is a daunting prospect! Morwenna has signed up to a number of events at the Transplant Games, including swimming, running and table tennis, and Jon is also taking part in the 5k Donors’ road race.
We would both be extremely grateful for any donations, no matter what size, in support of this charity.
