A walk in memory of our Mountain Leader David Doyle in aid of the Mourne Mountain Rescue Team · 29 December 2024

The Mourne Mountain Rescue Team was established in 1962 and was the first mountain rescue team in Ireland. The Team is made up entirely of volunteers who turn out in all weather, day or night, 24 hours a day, 365 days a year. A voluntary SAR team that undertakes between 30-40 callouts per year.

Story

On Sunday 29th December 2024 we will meet at 10am at the Lower Main Carpark in Tollymore Forest to walk the 10 mile Drinns Trail in memory of our dear friend David Doyle. In keeping with David's ethos this will be a slow to moderate walk open to all.

David was our dear friend who set up and ran the NI Walking Photography and the NI Wild Camping groups.

These two groups brought literally 100's of people together who never would have met otherwise. He encouraged us to get outdoors, organised trips at home and abroad and gave advice on the right gear to buy.

Most importantly he had the patience of a Saint as we wandered slowly about on our walks snapping pictures here, there and everywhere of the beautiful scenery. He made sure that it was a group that was suitable for all abilities and that nobody was ever left behind.

He did all of this for us without ever asking for anything in return.

David will be sadly missed by everyone who knew him.
