Story
I am running the Cambridge half marathon dressed as a fish. Not sure why I'm doing this, other than to raise a bit of money for Romsey Mill. Fancy donating? Don't be shellfish.
Romsey Mill is a charity committed to overcoming disadvantage, challenging injustice and promoting social inclusion with young people, children and families.
I have worked for Romsey Mill since 2009 and have seen first hand the huge difference the charity makes to so many people.
We have 4 main programmes:
Pre-schools
Aspire (supporting children with Autism)
Young Parents work
Youth Development work
I lead Romsey Mill's Youth Development Team. We work with disadvantaged, at-risk and vulnerable young people (aged 10 - 21 years) across Cambridgeshire and Peterborough.
We are passionate about supporting them to overcome challenges, live fulfilling lives and inspire change in the world around them.
We support 2,500 young people every year, placing a strong emphasis on nurturing developmental relationships with each young person through shared experiences that the young people enjoy.
Youth workers work in specific geographical areas where they become embedded in the local community. Areas where we work include:
Cambridge city
Sawston, Shelford and Stapleford (in partnership with SSYI)
Cambourne (in partnership with CYP)
Linton (in partnership with The Beacon Trust)
Hampton (Peterborough)
Northstowe
We seek to engage young people in multiple settings meaning they often engage with a youth worker more than once a week and may be involved in a wide range of activities during their time with Romsey Mill.
Our work, which is informed by our Theory of Change, can be broadly split into two categories:
Community-based, relational youth work including detached youth work (engaging young people when and where they meet in the community) open-access youth groups, creative arts and music studio sessions, sports projects, youth leadership programmes, adventurous activity residentials, and enriching trips.
Commissioned alternative education and early prevention support including accredited education, personal and social development courses, pastoral and individual care, transition, transfer and primary school group work.
We really value your interest in Romsey Mill's work. For further information, please visit our website at www.romseymill.org or reach out to us at development@romseymill.org with any questions. Thank you!
