Jonathan taking on 40tude's Sri Lanka Adventure Challenge 2026

40tude Sri Lanka Challenge · 8 September 2026

In September 2026 a team of amateur trekkers will be taking on 40tude’s rugged Adventure Challenge in Sri Lanka, supporting our mission to tackle colon cancer and honouring the legacy of our much-missed Ambassador, the rugby legend Tom Smith.

Story

In September I will be taking on 40tude's Sri Lanka Challenge, trekking 80km in the Sri Lankan central mountains over just 4 days. I've been on a number of these challenges before as I have had colonscopies which revealed polyps i.e. the precursor to bowel cancer - colon/bowel cancer is now the number 1 cancer killer of non smokers in the UK. It's easy to treat if detected early.

I'd be enormously grateful if you can make a donation - but whether or not you can, do get yourself tested regularly for colon cancer, and encourage others to do so as well.

For this challenge the specific focus is 40tude's Half:Time Test Campaign to raise greater awareness of the importance of getting tested regularly for this treatable cancer, from the age of 45, the mid-point or 'Half:Time' of life.

It’s also really easy to get tested: FIT is a simple test that can be done at home. 40tude has partnered with Selph, a well-regarded provider of at-home tests. You can buy a qFIT (high-sensitivity poo test) via Selph's website at: https://www.selph.co.uk/tests/q-fit-bowel-cancer-test.

Thank you for your support, and if it encourages you further this will probably be the last time I ask for support for an expedition of this sort!
