Raising money to help beat Type 1 Diabetes.
In August 2022 my, then, 9-year-old daughter was diagnosed with Type 1 Diabetes. It has been noticed that, since the COVID pandemic there has been a massive increase in childhood T1 Diabetes.
A recent study found:
there was a 14% rise in the rate during the first year of the pandemic, compared to before Covid
in the second year of Covid, the rate was up about 27% on pre-pandemic levels.
Therefore, a friend I are going to be driving an Orange 2006 Ford C-Max from Lower Stondon, Bedfordshire to Banjul in West Affrica via the Sahara in order to raise much needed funds for research into a cure for this disease by supporting Breakthrough T1D. The journey is some 4000 miles and will take up to 3 weeks... If the car makes it!
The Dakar Challenge
Leaving in January every year The Dakar/Banjul challenge departs for sunny West Africa and takes 21 day from our front door to the finish line should all go to plan Via France, Spain, Morocco, Western Sahara, Mauritania, Senegal ending in The Gambia A distance of about 4400 miles in a very unsuitable non ULEZ compliant shopping car. What could possibly go wrong?
