Story
For the last 3 years I have had the opportunity to work in a range of great places with amazing teams whilst completing my physiotherapy degree. One which has stuck very close to me was my placement in the Prince of Wales hospice. Getting to experience first hand the true extent of what this hospice provided for not only the patients but their friends, family and carers was truly eye opening to me as I saw every staff member go above and beyond to make every patients stay the best it could possibly be.
The Prince of Wales Hospice provides specialist care for people with life-limiting illnesses and their families in the Five Towns area of Wakefield District, supporting around 2,000 local people each year.
Both my Nana and Grandad had end of life care in a Hospice, however this placement changed my perception of the support that hospices offer completely. The hospice runs exercise classes, specialised bathing facilities for patients and people in the community and runs a range of activities throughout the day with the aim to create special memories between patients and their families.
This is why when I decided to challenge myself and run my first half-marathon which will be the Blackpool Half-Marathon on 26/04/26, I wanted to run it for a charity that means a lot to me as for a 400M runner 13.1 miles is a long way!
Your contributions will help ensure that more families can benefit from the incredible services provided by this remarkable hospice.
Thank you so so much, Jonny
