Walking 20000 miles in support of UK Mountain Rescue

Story

I finished walking my first 10000 mile on the 12th April 2025 with the Ascent of Ben Nevis and raised over £40k for UK based Mointain rescue teams. The last 10000 miles raised money for six different teams in the UK

So foolish or inspiring I decided to do walk another 10000

This is stage one or seven of the now 20000 mile challenge raising money for UK Mountain Rescue Teams. Stage seven is in support of Glossop Mountain Rescue Team and I aim to have got to the 12000 mile mark by March 2026.

Let's give you the context of the 20000 Mile challenge. Over the last few years the Trail Walking Club which I am the team leader as raised over £40k for Mountain Rescue in England, Wales and Scotland

We have raised this money via multiple charity walks and martial arts seminars. The 2020 event was not possible due to COVID19 restrictions.

So at the start of the pandemic, I decided to walk every day until I reach 1000 miles and finish on the top of Scafell Pike (England Highest Mountain). I am doing this in aide of Wasdale Mountain Rescue and in memory of my mum and dad who both passed away in Late 2019 and Early 2020 only 70 days apart.

Along side this, each stage will be in memory of a friend who passed away, whilst I was doing the challenge.

The 1000 Miles was reached on the 25th December 2020 (Christmas Day) but sadly due to COVID19 restrictions we could not meet the team on top of Scafell Pike.

So i decided to extend the deadline to September 18th 2021 and Sumitted Scafell pike on that day at the 2000 miles Marker and then we Just kept going. Then on the 24th September 2022 we summited Hellvelyn at the 4000 mile marker in support of Patterdale MRT and on the 15th April 2023 we summited Cairngorm in support of Skye MRT at the half way point of 5000 miles. With the half way point well behind us we then summited Snowdon on the 7th October 2023 at the 6000 mile mark and Scafell via the West Wall on 21st September 2024 at 8000 miles and finally Ben Nevis via the Tourist path on the 12th April 2025 at the 10000 mile marker.

So the aim now is to walk another 20000 miles raising money for 6 different Mountain Rescue Team.

These are listed below

10,000–12,000 miles: Glossop MRT (End Point TBD)

12,000–14,000 miles: Cockermouth MRT (Haystacks and Fleetwith Pike)

14,000–15,000 miles: Pennine & Bowland MRT (Clougha Pike)

15,000–16,000 miles: East Cornwall MRT (Coastal Walk or Brown Willy)

16,000–18,000 miles: Brecon MRT (Pen Y Fan / The Fan Dance)

18,000–20,000 miles: Cairngorm MRT (Ben MacDui – 2nd highest mountain in the UK)

So my ultimate goal is to reach 24901 miles which is the circumference of the Earth around the Equator, just slightly ahead of 24860 which is the circumference of earth around the poles.

All this is raising money for UK Mountain Rescue
