Why we are fundraising

2023 was a devastating year for us as we lost two amazing family members to cancer within two weeks of each other. My Dad, Tim Chant, passed away on 26th June 2023 after a short battle with cancer that had been diagnosed only 6 months earlier, 3 days before Christmas 2022 and my Grandad, Mike Steer, passed away after a 7 year battle with cancer on 12th July 2023.

During their battles, both dad, grandad and our families were supported by Rowcroft Hospice and the Rowcroft Community Team for the last few weeks of their lives. The work Rowcroft and the community team provide is exceptional and priceless. Rowcroft is a charity and is funded by donation and fundraising. The services they provide helps support people diagnosed with cancer and their families at the most difficult time in their lives. We want to raise funds that will help other people who find themselves in a similar situation to us as a way of thanking those who helped us and in the memory of Dad and Grandad.

Our target

We are extremely appreciative for the support we received and wanted to show our gratitude and say thank you to Rowcroft. We have decided as a family, with our friends, to embark on 12 months of challenges during 2024 to fund raise a target of £50,000 for Rowcroft to help them in continuing to support people diagnosed with cancer and their families.

We will be funding all events ourselves to ensure every penny donated goes directly to Rowcroft.

The Challenges

I will be taking part in a series of challenges both alongside my family and on my own to help achieve our target.

These will include:

Fancy dress 5 beach swim in same day in middle of winter – Feb 2024

Sky dive – May 2024

Three peaks challenge – June 2024

Raise a pint one year anniversary Tim and Mike June 26th– July 12th 2024

Commando challenge -Oct 2024

I would also like to do at least one half marathon during the year.
