I'm fundraising for Rethink Mental Illness

Great North Run 2024 · 8 September 2024 ·
In September 2024, I will be participating in the Great North Run to raise funds for Rethink Mental Illness.
This is for anyone and everyone affected by mental health, as well as in memory of all the loved ones I have lost, no matter how I lost them. But there are also personal reasons for me and this particular charity and cause. I've seen first hand with family and friends regarding this very important issue, as well as myself, but recently it has really hit home. My partner, Chloe, lost her father suddenly last Christmas. Seeing the massive impact this awfully sad situation had on her and her family was difficult to witness, and at times I felt helpless. Whilst she has received some great help so far, I still think the whole topic is severly underfunded and overlooked. We had our first son, Fox, earlier on in that year and her father, Anth, was unbelievably proud and loving being a grandad. Unfortunately it was cut way too short. I want to be the best possible person I can be, so I can be the best possible father to Fox and partner to Chloe. In order to achieve this I see mental health as an extremlely important aspect on that journey. Anth was full of life but, as with everyone at some point, did face some difficulties regarding mental health. One of his favourite things to do to help was go on walks and enjoy nature with his two dogs that he absolutely adored. I believe strongly that there is a massive stigma around mental health as a whole, but more specifically with men. Due to societal expectations of masculinity, men are less likely to talk to others about their feelings, so they suffer in silence. I want this to not be the case anymore, as even just talking about feelings and the situation is the first step in the right direction.
That's why I am running this half marathon - to help Rethink Mental Illness continue their mission of improving the lives of those affected by severe mental health issues. With your support, we can make a difference together. Every donation counts towards the goal of reaching £350. Your contribution will help provide vital services such as support groups, and educational resources for individuals and families affected by mental illness. Let's come together as a community to make a positive impact on those who need it most. Join me in this journey towards better mental health for all.
