Story

On Friday, October 24th, I’ll be lacing up my running shoes for the runDisney Wine & Dine 5K, and I’m doing it for a cause that means a great deal to me: Second Harvest Food Bank of Central Florida.

You might be wondering why I’m running. Why not just donate? The truth is, this is personal. On a few levels.

Earlier this year, my wife, Lacey, and I found out we’re expecting our first child — a baby girl due this November. We’re over the moon. But along with the joy came fear, if I’m being honest. Becoming a dad made me take a long, hard look at myself and my health. And it didn't happen instantly. By early May, I was the heaviest I’d ever been. I wasn’t moving my body much. I felt stuck, unhealthy, and uncertain about the path I was on.

But something clicked. I wanted to be around for my future daughter. To be active with her, and to be healthy as she grew up. So, I started walking every day. Then I jogged. I played pickleball. I lifted weights. And I kept showing up. As of early September, I’m down more than 60 pounds. And I’m just getting started.

Running this 5K is my way of celebrating this new chapter, and showing up not just for myself, but for my family — and for others.

That brings me to Second Harvest. As many of you already know, Lacey works there. And seeing the purpose and fulfillment she finds in helping others has been incredibly inspiring to me. In a world where there’s so much injustice and so many people struggling to meet even their basic needs, organizations like Second Harvest are essential.

Did you know that in Central Florida, 1 in 7 people is food insecure — and 1 in 6 kids are at risk of going to bed hungry tonight? That’s not okay. And that’s why I’ve set a goal to raise $1,000 to help Second Harvest provide meals to those who need them most.

To put it in perspective: a $10 donation can provide 40 meals. Every little bit helps. Truly.

So here’s my ask:

If you’re able, please consider making a donation to support my run. Whether it’s $5 or $50, your gift will make a real difference. And if you can’t donate, your encouragement and support still mean the world to me.

Thanks for cheering me on—and for helping fuel a mission that matters deeply to my family.

Let’s do this,

Jordan
