Joe's fundraiser for Mesothelioma UK

Half Marathon · 21 September 2024
My wife thought it would be a good wedding anniversary present to enter me into the Lucky horseshow half marathon at Bury St Edmunds in September. Therefore, i have decided to run this for charity, so here goes my story as to why..
In February 2017 my father was diagnosed with Mesothelioma. This is a disease generated from Asbestos fibres when Asbestos is airborne and inhaled. He was a carpenter who had worked extremely hard all of his life. He contracted the disease in the early 80's after just finishing his apprenticeship. My father had always been very active, with his passion being scuba diving and northern soul/motown. He was just starting to wind down in life but he was not granted the privilege of growing old. In May 2018 he sadly passed away at the age of 61, leaving behind his son, daughter, grandsons (8 and 4 at the time) and his partner. To watch someone who has always been fit, healthy and proud become weak and not be able to go about their day to day life is something that i hope no one else has to go through.
The charity i am hoping to raise money for helped my Dad greatly from diagnosis of the disease until he sadly passed. I will forever be grateful to them and i hope what i raise will help them in the future.
I know times are tough, so only please donate if you can.
Rest in peace Dad - I hope the Jaegar is flowing and the Guiness is on tap up there!
