I'm taking on the Big Lent Walk for Water for SCIAF!

This Lent, join SCIAF for the Big Lent Walk for Water! We are inviting you to join us walking over 40 days to raise vital funds for our poorest sisters and brothers – and shine a light on global injustice.

Story

SCIAF has always been part of my life for as long as I can remember. I was that wee boy filling his little box with every spare coin he could find. Life’s busier now, but I still give what I can, always wishing I could do more.

Over the past few years, I’ve reconnected deeply with my faith, not just in words but in action. So here it goes!

This Lent, beginning on Ash Wednesday, February 18, 2026, I’m taking part in the 200km challenge, walking 200km over 40 days to raise funds to fight global poverty and provide clean water to communities who need it most.

You’ll see others taking part, walking strong and steady. My starting line looks a little different. I live with a rare neurological disease, only diagnosed in 2019. Before that, I was healthy enough and never imagined how quickly things could change. Now I’m constantly adapting as it affects me in many ways, and my mobility will gradually decline over time.

I don’t know if this might be the only walking challenge I’ll be able to take on. But I’m filled with the fight to do it. So right now, while I can, I want to use the health I have to do something that truly matters.

I once tried to top up my wee SIAF box with every coin I could find. Now I’m asking if you’ll help me top up this virtual one. Your support will carry me on the days my health tells me to rest, and help me get back on the road when it would be easier to stop.

Thank you, and God bless.
