8 hour cycle for my shift at Ninja Warrior Swansea · 27 May 2025

Diabetes UK is the charity leading the fight against the UK's devastating and fastest growing health crisis, working to create a world where diabetes can do no harm. It’s a fight that involves all of us – sharing knowledge and taking diabetes on together. Join us.

Story

Hi everyone! My name is Josh, and I’m taking on a 8-hour stationary cycle challenge during my full shift at Ninja Warrior Swansea this half term – all to raise awareness for Type 1 and Type 2 diabetes,

I was diagnosed with Type 1 diabetes at just 1 year old, and I’m turning 30 this July. I’ve lived with diabetes every single day of my life – through the highs, the lows, and everything in between. But I’ve never let it stop me.

And I’m not alone. At Ninja Warrior Swansea, two of our amazing team members also live with Type 1 diabetes. Together, we want to show what’s possible when you have the right care, support, and mindset.

The Goal:

To prove that diabetes doesn’t define us – and to show that with the right care, people with diabetes can achieve incredible things. I’ll be cycling non-stop for 8 hours (yes, the whole shift!) right at the heart of the park to inspire others, raise awareness, and encourage people to learn more.

I will have 5 other staff members periodically cycling for 2 hours each on a secondary bike beside me!

On the Day:

Diabetes UK will be joining us with:

“Know Your Risk” station

Information packets

Donation buckets

Friendly volunteers and team leaders

A chance to learn more about diabetes, support a great cause, and cheer me on!

How You Can Help:

Your donation – big or small – will go directly to Diabetes UK, supporting vital research, education, and care. If you can’t donate, please share this page, spread the word, and come say hello on the day!

This challenge is about more than just pedalling – it’s about breaking stigma, building awareness, and showing every diabetic kid (and adult) that they’re not alone – and they’re capable of amazing things.

Thanks so much for your support

Josh
