Story
Running the London Marathon for Macmillan Cancer Support, in loving memory of Jaz’s mum, Suki Thompson.
It's very rare in life, that you meet someone who doesn't just have a presence, but IS a presence in its entirety - the human embodiment of a feeling. Suki was exactly that. Sunshine, in walking form.
If you were fortunate enough to arrive in her orbit, carrying even the smallest cloud of grey, it didn't stand a chance. Suki had an extraordinary way of dispersing ones gloom, not with grand gestures, but with warmth, humour and an unwavering interest in you - whether monumental or only mildly dramatic, Suki had the ability to make you feel like the most important thing in the world at any given moment - a trait she has passed on to her daughter, Jaz.
She offered counsel on everything, from outfits and hairstyles to life-altering decisions and for me, soul baring admissions - never once did any of it feel trivial. That was her gift, no hierarchy of importance, but genuine care. Your worries were valid, your accomplishments celebrated and your life? A gift!
Her true super power, one I hope we can all experience at some point in our being, was that she made you feel like the world was yours for the taking, so DO IT!
Suki sadly lost her life to cancer at the age of 56 in 2023. We have been incredibly lucky to have been given six charity places in the London Marathon for Macmillan on Sunday 26th April 2026.
And so, terrified, we run. For the sunshine she brought, the confidence she gave and the belief she instilled.
Macmillan meant the world to Suki. She served on the Board of Trustees for 10 years and, in the final few months of her life, raised over £150,000 for the charity.
Any donation, no matter how small, truly means the world, to me, Jaz and all those who had the pleasure of knowing Suki, and helps Macmillan continue their incredible work.
Thank you for your love, and support!
x
