Why I’m Taking on the UK Three Peaks Challenge
Next year, I’ll be climbing Ben Nevis, Scafell Pike, and Snowdon within in 3 days to raise funds for Headway – the brain injury association. This challenge means a lot to me, because the support Headway has given my family has been life changing.
My stepdad, Ian, has suffered multiple strokes over the years. Each one has brought new challenges, long hospital stays, months of rehabilitation, and the difficult emotional impact that comes with rebuilding your life again and again. Watching someone you love go through that is incredibly tough, and it was equally hard for my mum, who has been by his side through it all.
Throughout these difficult times, Headway has been a lifeline.
For Ian, Headway has given him something truly meaningful:
- A place where he feels heard, understood, and never judged.
- Group meetings that make him feel like he’s part of a family.
- Support that helps him rebuild confidence and connect with others.
- Activities like wildlife park visits, afternoon teas, and social outings that bring joy back into his life.
For my mum, their support has been just as important.
Headway has checked in on her consistently, especially during Ian’s long hospital stays. Offering reassurance, emotional support, and someone who genuinely understands what she’s going through. She often says:
“I don’t know what we would have done without them.”
And I know she genuinely means it.
That’s why I’m taking on the UK Three Peaks Challenge, to give something back to a charity that has supported my family in ways we never expected but desperately needed.
By donating, you’ll be helping Headway continue providing this kind of support to families who are facing the devastating effects of brain injury every single day.
