Story
I’ve spent my whole life in, on or near the water. My first ever job was as a windsurf instructor. Today, I'm a kitesurfer who grabs every windy weekend.
Favourite photo: me, age 6, beaming beside Bilbo the lifeboat dog on holiday in Cornwall.
The sea has given me everything – thrills, adventures, and a very healthy respect for its power.
Why the RNLI?
Since launching its first lifeboat in 1824, the Royal National Lifeboat Institution has saved over 146,000 lives.
97 % of everyone at the RNLI is a volunteer, leaving their beds, jobs and families at a moment’s notice to rescue strangers in trouble.
My personal connection
Professionally, I work for Bynder, where we help the RNLI manage the incredible photos, videos and stories that inspire public support. We see exactly how every rescued-at-sea image, every crew interview, every social-media clip keeps the donations flowing and the lifeboats afloat.
The challenge
On London Marathon day 2026 I’ll run 26.2 miles, aiming to raise £2,300 – that’s about £88 for every mile. Your support will:
- Fund crew training and kit
- Fuel lifeboats and keep them mission-ready
- Help the RNLI’s international drowning-prevention work
How you can help
Donate whatever you can – £5, £20 or any amount that feels right.
Share this page with friends who love the water or admire lifesavers.
Together we can ensure the next shout from the pager ends in another life saved.
Thank you for backing the crews who never back down.
Catch you at the beach,
Josh
