Story
Whilst it’s probably not much of a secret… I’ll be running my marathon debut at the 2025 London Marathon, where I will be attempting to achieve a Sub-3 Hour time. For this, I will be raising money and awareness for The Errol McKellar Foundation, Prostate Cancer Charity.
Prostate Cancer affects, 1 in 4 men from a Black African or Caribbean background, 1 in 8 white men and 1 in 12 Asian men in the UK. Over 47,000 men are diagnosed with prostate cancer every year, 129 men every day. Every 45 minutes one man dies from prostate cancer.
The Errol McKellar Foundation’s mission, through their “MOT Yourself” campaign, is to raise awareness of the dangers posed by prostate cancer, available testing and ultimately, to stop men from dying through ignorance and fear. I had the pleasure of meeting Errol personally through my work, who’s character and passion for his cause felt impossible not to support.
Thankfully getting my spot with running club LDN SLCT, from which a large proportion are from the Afro-Caribbean diaspora, I see it as an opportunity to spread awareness about how this disease disproportionately affects these communities so starkly. This really is our brothers, uncles, fathers, grandfathers and friends, the list goes on.
Cancer in various forms, unfortunately, has affected many of my closest people. Whilst I have been putting myself through some rough times the past 12 weeks of this training block, to me, that is minuscule in comparison to the fight others this disease continue to face. I plan to bring the sub-3 result home, for me, for them🌻.
Otherwise, any donation (no matter the size), means a huge amount. But most importantly, let’s get the conversation going.
Love!
