My name is Joshua, I’m 16 years old, and I’m a Corporal with 95 (Crewe) Squadron Royal Air Force Air Cadets. I’m taking on a tandem skydive to raise funds for Royal British Veterans Enterprise (RBVE) – a charity that supports veterans when they need it most.

Being part of the RAF Air Cadets has given me many opportunities to challenge myself and grow as a person. Through cadet training and activities, I’ve developed important life skills such as confidence, teamwork and leadership, while learning to take responsibility for myself and others.

The Air Cadets focus on helping young people gain skills and qualifications that are useful not just within the organisation, but in everyday life and future careers. As a corporal, I’m expected to set a good example, support my fellow cadets, and contribute positively to the squadron. This has helped me understand the importance of service, discipline, respect and good citizenship.

The organisation also places great importance on community, inclusion and support, creating a safe environment where young people are encouraged to reach their potential. Through these experiences, I’ve learned how powerful structured support and opportunity can be – and how much of a difference it can make to someone’s life.

These values have helped me understand and appreciate the work of Royal British Veterans Enterprise (RBVE).

Royal British Veterans Enterprise has been supporting veterans since 1919, originally helping soldiers returning from the First World War to rebuild their lives. Today, it is a national charity and a recognised leader in veteran support.

RBVE focuses on delivering practical, life‑changing support by helping veterans and people with disabilities move towards independence and long‑term stability. Their work includes:

Employment support, through social enterprises such as Britain’s Bravest Manufacturing Company and Scotland’s Bravest Manufacturing Company, which provide meaningful paid work for veterans and people with disabilities

The Lifeworks programme, which helps veterans who face significant barriers into employment through tailored, practical support

Housing and homelessness support, including its award‑winning village in Aylesford, which is home to around 300 veterans, with a major expansion underway to provide 100 additional homes as part of the Centenary Village project

Through this combination of employment, housing and community support, RBVE helps veterans rebuild confidence, regain independence and feel part of a supportive community.

Taking on a tandem skydive will definitely push me outside my comfort zone, but that’s something the Air Cadets has taught me to face with confidence. I want to use this challenge to give something back to those who have served our country and who deserve support as they move forward in civilian life.
