Story
I'm running the TCS 2025 London Marathon as part of #TeamBowelCancerUK.
I’ve chosen to support Bowel Cancer UK as they're UK’s leading bowel cancer charity. They’re determined to save lives and improve the quality of life of everyone affected by bowel cancer.
I have a personal attachment to this charity as my mother, Pandora, was a victim of Bowel Cancer, subsequently passing away in my early teens.
In addition, my girlfriend's mother, Joy, was unfortunately diagnosed with bowel cancer. However, thanks to the swift identification and treatment of the disease, she has since recovered and is now living cancer-free.
Were it not for the support provided for regular screenings now being promoted nationwide, Eva's mother might never have known she had cancer. Perhaps, with such early detection efforts, doctors could have identified my mother’s cancer sooner, potentially changing her outcome.
This is, unfortunately, the story for many people whose symptoms are overlooked due to a lack of care and awareness—not only within professional healthcare but among individuals as well. We live in a world where health is often taken for granted until it’s too late.
Bowel cancer is becoming increasingly common, now affecting individuals as young as in their twenties. Greater awareness is essential to empower people to make informed choices, prioritise their health, and adopt healthier eating habits.
Bowel Cancer UK support and fund targeted research, provide expert information and support to patients and their families, educate the public and professionals about the disease and campaign for early diagnosis and access to best treatment and care.
How your donation could help make a difference:
• £10 could deliver an awareness talk
• £25 could provide an hour’s expert nurse support on our Ask the
Nurse service
• £50 could help support policy work to improve bowel screening
By donating today, we can help Bowel Cancer UK achieve their vision of a future where nobody dies of bowel cancer.
Thank you.
