Story
On 5 May 2024 I will be running the Copenhagen Marathon for Children with Cancer UK. This is a cause that has touched mine and George’s family, and we are grateful for all of the brilliant research and support that the charity provides, especially whilst members of our family are going through such a difficult time.
I’m fundraising for Helena, Francesca and all the brave children battling cancer.

Helena was diagnosed with a rare solid tumour in January 2021. Her mum Katherine shares her story.
Helena was diagnosed with a rare solid tumour in January 2021 when she was 10 years old. She had been a normal happy and healthy child who enjoyed playing netball, football, tennis, swimming, skateboarding and being with her friends.
Sadly Helena has relapsed twice. Her treatment has involved 15 rounds of chemotherapy, 2 major surgeries, 25 transfusions of blood/platelets, 5 general anaesthetics, 20 sessions of radiotherapy and 150 nights in hospital.
Helena has stayed really active during her hospital stays. She has played pool and hula hooped while hooked up to the chemo pump, attended school lessons online, played her guitar and stayed positive through out. She has lost her hair 3 times.
Being in hospital so much, missing school and friends and facing harsh treatments designed for adults is not easy.

Francesca was diagnosed with a cancerous brain tumour in October last year at the age of 12. The diagnosis came after a routine eye appointment and was a total shock.
After initial surgery, Francesca then underwent a period of intensive radiotherapy. The tumour unfortunately damaged her pituitary gland and left her with poor eyesight. However after a rough period constantly in and out of hospital, Francesca’s first scan results were excellent and she is now making great progress.
Children with Cancer UK is amazing in the support they offer not only to the child but also family members. Until Francesca was diagnosed with cancer her parents had no idea such a charity existed and the fantastic work it does to support children with cancer in the UK.
