Story
As my big 40 approaches, I can hardly believe it; people say I don't look a day over 21! Despite never being a runner and constantly telling myself that I hate running or can't do it, I decided to challenge myself and attempt to run the London Marathon in 2024 to mark the occasion. It's an extraordinary goal for me, but I'm determined to make it happen.
I feel incredibly fortunate to have been granted a fundraising place by GISTCancer.org.uk, an indispensable organisation dedicated to raising awareness, supporting patients and carers, and funding research for Gastrointestinal Stromal Tumours (GIST). Their unwavering commitment to fighting this rare form of cancer is truly invaluable, providing hope and resources for those affected and their loved ones. Through their efforts, they work tirelessly to improve the understanding and treatment of GIST, while advocating for better patient care. GISTCancer.org.uk's passion for making a difference plays a vital role in the fight against this challenging disease, offering a beacon of support to those navigating the complexities of GIST diagnosis and treatment.
The reason behind my unwavering dedication to this cause is my best friend and all-time favourite human Char, who was diagnosed with GIST back in 2019. She holds an incredibly special place in my heart which you could probably tell being the godmother to my first daughter Sienna, and even my second child, Lottie, is named after her. When Char and her husband Si were trying to have their second child, the discovery of an ovarian cyst led to the diagnosis of a much larger GIST tumour connected to her small intestine. Despite the challenges, Char continues to fight bravely against GIST to this day. Char is one incredible mum to Max, wife, daughter and friend and I know I speak for everyone who knows her that we are lucky to have her in our lives.
I'm incredibly honoured to be running on behalf of GISTcancer.org.uk. As a small specialist charity, they often lose out to larger organisations at major fundraising sporting events. However, when I reached out to them earlier this year, they took action and contacted the London Marathon, securing one fundraising position, and they graciously offered it to me! I feel immensely privileged and determined to do both GISTCancer.org.uk and Char proud. Together, let's make a difference and support those affected by GIST!
