In September 2024, my uncle was unexpectedly diagnosed with myeloma (cancer that develops from the plasma cells in the bone marrow).

Before the diagnosis, he spent most of his time in Peru, South America, with his wife and their two young children (our beautiful godchildren). My uncle and auntie are incredible doctors, whose research focusses on the development of innovative strategies to address tuberculosis and other diseases of poverty (https://www.ifhad.org/).

The diagnosis was challenging in itself, however the intensity of the treatment meant their entire lives were uprooted - they moved to the UK, away from their work and the children's schools, their friends and their home.

Macmillan have been an incredible support - providing a 24-hour nurse helpline during his treatment, offering counselling and support for the children, and having a hollistic approach to the care they provide.

Cancer is devastating, and so many people have been directly or indirectly impacted by the diagnosis, treatment or outcomes. Macmillan offers unparalleled support to individuals and their families, and your donation will help this continue.

I am running for my uncle, for my auntie and our godchildren, for Leone, for my grandmother and grandfather, and for every individual who has been affected by cancer.
